Eeeek. NIS operability as a reason to use Solaris. Sounds like
their marketing is becoming more effective these days. I wouldn't run
NIS if you paid me. :)
At any rate, my SunOS systems (there were several hundred in a
previous life [job], only one left now) all ran NIS-free with seamless
DNS support and empty /etc/hosts files. But I'll admit that I had
source code and a couple of other knowledgeable folks to work through
messes like that.
SunOS4 off the CDROM sucks rocks. What I'm trying to say is...I
think it's got far greater *potential* to be a good OS than Solaris
does. I know, because I've done it...and the people who still work
there are *still* trying to do it with Solaris...and are failing
miserably. It's very subjective, but that's what I'm basing this on.
Just wanted to be clear on that...
