thanks to everyone who helped.  the getting 12v+ from the floppy connector 
isn't an option as the floppy drive gets +5v and GRD straight out of the
power supply, the power for the CD-ROM is what i will end up using, just need
to figure out which is +12v and which is +5v (Sun doesn't use "standard" color
codes on their wires)
