I think that "too-old and crusty" is the problem. I got those errors with
an old Hitachi recently and I slapped it around a bit then plugged it into
a couple other machines and never got anything out of it. Those
full-heights make nice bookends tho',and there's always the ol' 'platter
clock' <--great for gifts ;-)...
