Ah, ok ... you're not striping, you're simply concatenating...

Ok... so, just so I'm clear on this, the actual bug you're reporting is that
the ccd is reporting the error on the incorrect component?  i.e. the
problem component was actually /dev/sd9g, but component 4 translates to
/dev/sd5g?  Hmm..
