Yes, my SS10, for example, uses not only a different floppy chip, but the 
control registers for, say, ejecting the floppy either live in a 
different place or have a different format.  Time to go header file 
hunting...

When the boot block is running, it doesn't really make any difference, 
since the drivers used to read from the floppy are actually the drivers 
in the OpenProm.  The way I read Peter's e-mail was that it was the boot 
block itself that was losing, before the kernel was even finished loading.

Indeed, once I boot my SS10 off floppy, I mount the root filesystem from 
somewhere else, and use a paperclip to eject the floppy...
