I'll tell ya what I know. At one time I was an employee of the
company. Then I left to do SBus engineering at other companies.
Now I'm a contractor at Sun and I work on the kernel as part of my
job. So I have access to things most people wouldn't. But, that's only
because I need it to do my job. It doesn't mean I have the authority to
give out source code nor would I. But, the knowledge I gather on my own and
maintain in my head is mind to do as I see fit with. The courts have
affirmed this.
Also, you don't need to go to Sun always. I got a copy of the SS1
schematics just by calling LSI Logic. They were the original ASIC
company for the SS1. They had a developers kit that included the
schematics, a BOM, the netlist, and everything one needed to make
a clone. And you never had to sign an agreement. If you tried to
get that from Sun it would have been easier to pull teeth. There
is more than 1 way to skin a cat..
I have good relations with my director of the division. And I'm sure he
wouldn't have a problem with this nor would my manager. So long as I
don't let it interfere with my work. And I wouldn't. Because I would
only do this at home.
But, back to the question at hand. No my name is not on any Sun source
license. So you can rest easily about this.
I really think we are blowing this out of proportion. All, I'm talking
about is doing some very simple work right now. I'm not even sure that
I can help you as I don't know what you need done. Maybe I might not
even have the time.
So I would propose that we take it as we go..
