Hmm, we don't change the video mode at all. Someone added code to turn sync-on-green on or off according to some ARCS variable, maybe that's what bites you - we should probably leave it alone.

Absolutely.

If so, what resolution/refresh is it likely to be trying to use?

Whatever the firmware sets up, usually something like 1280x1024 at 60Hz.
