(my turn to point out the obvious :)

the R8000 is, essentially, the red-headed stepchild of the family; it's
unlikely that it will ever be supported by anything other than IRIX. (and
i doubt that it's even supported in IRIX 6.5, not that i have a machine
to test with.)

your best options are: space heater, doorstop, or museum donation :)
