Try running some of the programs off the SGI Freeware site?  They vary 
widely in complexity, but most of them can be checked against native 
versions as the source code is included so you can always try building 
them, to see what works as expected, and such...

Just a thought.  Plus of course, there's not going to be a licensing issue 
with using those, as there may or may not be with IRIX ones...  It's been 
a while since I read my SGI license agreements.
