but GOT_OFFSET_TABLE is part of the pic/PIC functionality.  I do not know
enough about SVR4/ELF ABI to be sure, but the existence of that symbol
seems strange.  Is the kernel unknowningly being linked with some library
which now is being built pic/PIC?
