I am totally stumped!!!  Really don't know what to do. Using hesiod
isn't an option.
If anybody can give my any idea about any method of diagnosing the
problem, it would be 
greatly appreciated.

sorry, I'm clueless on securenet ( I'm quite a piker at this ).

nsswitch.conf appears o.k. 
 
group:          compat
group_compat:   nis
hosts:          dns files
netgroup:       files [notfound=return] nis
networks:       files
passwd:         compat
passwd_compat:  nis
