Make sure the shift key issue isn't just a case of the Xserver only
allowing one keysym per modifier... I know that was the problem in the old
server. Using xev, you can see both Shift_L and Shift_R...

Somebody running the new Xserver could possibly try "xmodmap -pm" and
report the result...
