Hmmm ... perhaps I missed the point of what Jonathan wanted tested.
If the whole idea was to test netbooting, then I wasn't helping at all.
I thought the point was to test the "ssto" kernel, so I was just
booting off a kernel in /.

In any case, I took your suggestion and power-cycled today before
booting the ssto kernel, but got the same failure.

Jonathan, I can boot a kernel on this failing machine at a moment's
notice, should you be inclined to try to track this down at some point.
