Well, I copied the X11R5 font directories from my dad's machine, and
it works A-OK now. :-) I have no idea what was wrong with xfs, but
clearly something was.

If anyone else is in the same boat, I'd be happy to put a set of X11R5
fonts up for ftp--let me know. :-)
