Sorry for the delay; I was hoping to get a chance to try this at least
once myself before inflicting it on anybody else; but since you seem
to be chomping at the bit, I've left some things for you at
ftp://ftp.isds.duke.edu/pub/Users/gallatin/NetBSD/pmax/diskless/
I've put up a kernel that will boot via bootp/tftp on a DECstation
3100 (as you told me you had) and a 5000/120. Along with that kernel
is a tar'ed & gzipped copy of the miniroot (so that you don't need to
dd it onto a disk to get started). Follow the "directions" in the
README file & diskless.cat8 files.
In addition to this stuff, you'll need a binary distribution; you can
get the latest snapshot from
ftp://ftp.dsg.stanford.edu/pub/NetBSD/arch/pmax/snapshot
Please let me know how you're doing... I've gotten into single user
mode on a 3100 & and a 5k/120 using this kernel & miniroot, both
hosted from a DECstation running Ultrix 4.3a and from a DECstation
running NetBSD/pmax. But I haven't tried to go beyond that; Ie, I've
not tried labeling a disk & actually installing from scratch this way.
