The problem was lack of kernel in the rootimage I had.  hpeyerl made one 
for me las' night (Thanx, Herb!)

Unfortunately, I pulled a gomer move, and re-labeled that 
disk...oops...S'ok, I can start over again...:-)  I did have it talking 
to the network last night, tho...
