Re: DECstation 2100: power trouble?
Back in April, I wrote here about a 2100 I had with apparent power
trouble.
Today, I picked this up a little. I pulled the board out of the case
and soldered wires to the foil side of the power connector pins. I
then connected them to an ATX supply, ignoring the 9V pins which macro@
said I "might get away without".
I turned it on and...the lights stuck at FF, with nothing on the serial
port (I think it's the port with the printer icon I should be using, is
it not?).
I measured the voltages at the power connector pins, using pin 2 as a
reference.
Pin 1: -12.12
Pin 3: 0
Pin 4: 0
Pin 5: 4.78
Pin 6: 4.78
Pin 7: 4.79
Pin 8: 4.78
Pin 9: 11.30
Pin 10: 4.78
Pin 11: 0
Pin 12: 0
Pin 13: 7 mV
Pin 14: 7 mV
It looks to me as though it's one or more of
1) Hardware is broken. (Always an option, but, given the extent to
which it was working back in April it seems unlikely here.)
2) It really does need the 9V supply.
3) It's touchy about voltages out of the PS's spec (+5.1, +12.1, and
-12.1, all ±5% - only pin 1 is within spec).
Any guesses?
