Curious.  Do you happen to recall whether you had anything connected to
the keyboard and mouse connectors?

I've found a little more about my machine.  Not sure how much use it'll
be, but here it is.

Nothing there surprises me, though I do wonder what the "bitmap" is.

So, despite the 0x00000000, it does at some level realize it's got 24M
of RAM.  I speculate that maybe this is related to my using ^C to abort
the selftest.
