Initially, I too thought it was driver-specific -- one failure case was
wdsc timeouts on an IP24 with r5k.

Replacing the r5k module with an r4k module made the problem go away.
That looks like a smoking gun to me :)

If your IP32 is stable with some permutation of Rafal's patch, then maybe we
have our fix  My unpatched r5k IP32, before it broke, frequently went into
comas during heavy load.
