I'm trying to install NetBSD 5.1 RC4 on a G4 Cube, and have mostly succeeded, except that the machine won't boot after installation, panicing in fwohci init (fwohci: kernel MCHK trap) This machine has a broken firewire so this might be expected. The install kernel boots fine.

Could someone put a 5.1 kernel without firewire online, or suggest a workaround ?

I forgot to ask - what's the PCI ID for this particular firewire controller?

I'm not use how to get that info. system_profiler on Mac OS X gives nothing for firewire (I think because it's broken). I attach to this mail a snapshot of the panic, maybe the info you want is in there.

Hmm, that's a Texas Instruments chip so the patch I had won't help - it disables certain firewire controllers with Apple IDs. A trap in malloc() is still suspicious though, broken chip or not.

have fun
