The INSTALL kernel [which lacks radeonfb(4)] is also affected by the problem:

genfb0 at pci0 dev 16 function 0 [...]
genfb0: bogus parameters, unable to continue

It continues to use the initial console which uses the firmware font,
but then it panics:

panic: cnopen: no console device!
