I don't understand your point.
"Succeeding build.sh" doesn't mean "make" on your host is okay.
It just means all target binaries are installed into
DESTDIR and RELEASEDIR and build.sh never uses host's "make".

Why don't you try makewrapper in $TOOLDIR?
Are you asking how to use your own "make" without its info?
