Hi,

I know this may be a little bit off topic for this, but generally someone
on this list will have an answer.

I am running NetBSD 2.1 on a B&W G3. The server seemed to work fine until
lately. I started having some problems with apache, it would take a real
long time for it to serve a page. I started running lighty, but I wasn't
running any php on it. Since then, I added a site that uses alot of php.
So, I started running it on lighty. Now, either lighty or fast-cgi seems
to stop responding sometimes. I have tried several different versions of
lighty, php4 and php5, but I still seem to have a problem. I tried to go
back to apache, but with the new website all it will give me is 503 errors
when it is under a load. I have tried to do performance tuning and it
doesn't help.

The fast-cgi processes didn't seem to be controlled properly with php4.
Running php5 I still have issues, but it doesn't give any errors or fail
to start. Also, when I start lighty for the first time after a reboot, it
will not do any php. I think that the fast-cgi sockets are not ready. What
I have noticed is that everything will work if I start lighty when the
server starts. Let it run a few seconds, then kill it with -9 wait a few
seconds and then start it again. Then php is running and everything works
fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Al
