Hi,

I'm trying to turn my mini (running 4.0_BETA2) into a NTP server for the
rest of my LAN. I configured ntpd and started it. Then wait a bit before
trying to synchronize clients - since "ntpq -p" give '+' before server's
name.

The thing is, ntp clients keep saying "no server suitable for
synchronization found". Debugging ntpdate, I can see "Server dropped:
strata too high". From the server I can see:
ntpq> rv
assID=3D0 status=3Dc6f4 sync_alarm, sync_ntp, 15 events,
event_peer/strat_chg,
version=3D"ntpd 4.2.2p2-o Thu Jul 26 22:36:41 GMT 2007 (1)",
processor=3D"macppc", system=3D"NetBSD/4.0_BETA2", leap=3D11, stratum=3D16,
precision=3D-20, rootdelay=3D0.000, rootdispersion=3D5.700, peer=3D17813,
refid=3DR??T, reftime=3D00000000.00000000  Thu, Feb  7 2036  7:28:16.000,
poll=3D6, clock=3Dca6ddcbf.c468c006  Wed, Aug 15 2007 22:12:47.767, state=
=3D2,
offset=3D0.000, frequency=3D15.601, jitter=3D302.907, noise=3D0.001,
stability=3D0.000, tai=3D0

=46rom what I understood, the "stratum=3D16" explains why my clients can't
synchronize.

Now my problem is: why that mini won't ever get a lowest stratum than 16
? I've copied ntp.conf on some /i386 machine and it only takes 5min
before the /i386 serves ntp request correctly - even the mini can
synchronize with it :)

Anyone has ideas ?

TIA,
	Jo
