Depends - the onboard graphics chip sucks but you can always get a PCI 
graphics board with the right firmware ( PCI Voodoo3s can be flashed 
with freely available Mac firmware for instance ), the CPU can be 
upgraded ( even a 300MHz G3 with 1MB cache isn't all that slow ) and 
the machine can take up to 1GB RAM. OHCI cards go for about $10 these 
days.
More modern desktops like KDE3 aren't all that CPU hungry, a 300MHz G3 
is fine, even for most of the eye candy - they only want a lot of RAM.
