Hello all.

I finally got my blue and white 400mhz G3 the other day. It's actually
the "server" system with a blocked off modem port.

Last night I decided to try netbooting it to wach NetBSD work. It
boots up, then I add a user with useradd -m <user>. This seems to work
fine, until I do "passwd" from root (I initially start with no root
password, it just logs straight in when I use root). When I do that,
it breaks my other user. He can no longer log in with sshd, with an
authentication errror. I can recreate it if someone wants to work on
it.

The workaround was to set the root password first, then create the
user, and so far it seems to be working OK.

Next thing is, I decide to take out the disk that came with it (10 gig
with OSX 10.2), and replace it with a 40 gig Maxtor drive. All I did
was unplug the original disk, set up the new one as master (same as
the one that came in it), and tried to use it. The machine won't power
on. When I put the original disk back in, it powers on. What's up with
this?

Also, one time when I went back to the original disk, it wouldn't boot
either so in desperation I tried pushing 2 little buttons on the
motherboard near the battery, this seemed to fix it. I have no idea
what that did.

I've got very little macppc hardware experience before now, so maybe
I'm missing something. If someone could direct me to a hardware guide
or something, that would be great.

Andy
