This looks awfully like a wonky SCSI cable and/or missing or wrong 
termination. Mesh is rather picky about that and the fact that it works 
better on a slower controller seems to reinforce this diagnosis.

It might also help to shuffle memory modules around - not exactly sure 
why but in my S900 it made a difference where I plugged which module. 
Did you mix modules with different access time ratings?
