I /think/ that warning is obsolete but that needs to be checked more 
thoroughly.
The warning is from a time when the the interrupt handling code in 
macppc had some severe problems that would make it lose interrupts all 
the time and lead to occasional deadlocks under heavy (interrupt) load. 
Now this code has been rewritten ( as for 3.0 ) and I've yet to see any 
interrupt-related deadlocks with or without awacs.
So please try it and tell us if awacs causes any kind of problems on 
your hardware.

And about sound in KDE - did you set 'threaded OSS' as audio system? If 
you did try just OSS.
