Hey,

I am thus running 3.0 with a 3.99 series kernel! it built and works.
I can start Xfree without any kernel and X patches now. The kernel even
attempts to set the text white on black on the console, with partial
results. Also the keyboard is now decently usable.

still, strange thigns happen.

I try to start X and no xterms start!
I login remotely with telnet and see with ps that a lot

 71 ttyp0 S+ 0:00.01 (utmp_update)
 96 ttyp0 S+ 0:00.03 (utmp_update)

processes are running.

I even try to start remotely xterm and it hangs (to an xported display)
rxvt instead

{6} rxvt: can't open pseudo-tty
rxvt: aborting

the kernel settings (the conf file) is the same I always used since a
year or even more...

cheers,

  Riccardo
