Oh, this kernel is almost certainly optimized - for a 604 or G3 ;)
What L2 cache options did you use? If a kernel that doesn't enable the
L2 cache runs halfway stable this may be (part of) the cause.

The firmware would enable the mainboard cache. These days my G3 runs
with 1MB L2 backside and 512KB L3, seems stable but I doubt the L3 does
anything useful.
