I have run netbsd 2.0 "beta" and then with newer kernels for many many
months on my faithful 4400.
The system was absolutely rock-stable, with no problems on disk, ide or
scsi (much better than a 9500). The only complaiont would be that the
crappy RTK ethernet did sometimes have probelms with DMA and net
stopped, but it would resume after a short time. I believe it was due to
the indecent NIC, but still it shouldn't have happened. In the meanwhile
interrputs on PCI cards should have been improved and cleaned up, so it
might be worth a try. Unfortunately my 4400 died.
