That's one of the kernels with (for you) unusable mc, isn't it?

Sort of. I did some fiddling with the console stuff and now I have 
accelerated drivers for mach64- and voodoo3-based graphics boards ( 
machfb is shared with sparc64. Works with Rage II, Pro, 3D etc. but not 
LT (weird) and 128 (next generation, doesn't have a lot in common with 
the older ones) chips ) - besides being FAST these also support virtual 
consoles, ANSI colours and they do some cleanup when X exits - the last 
screen content is redrawn. But that won't help you with your mga. If 
you have some Rage- or Voodoo3-based board and want to give it a try 
let me know.
