-current doesn't need load-base and real-base changed anymore ( at least not on my boxes - a UMAX S900 with OF 1.0.5 and an iBook G4 ). This leaves the fiddling with device paths - I think the way to go here is to extend bootvars, it could...
- figure out which video devices are present, known to OF and which one the user would most likely want to use. In doubt it could present a list of potential OF console devices.
- same for the boot device - it should be able to read NetBSD disklabels and figure out which partition belongs to what device path, at least on OF3 that shouldn't be too hard.
- probably install bootblocks - having to boot the CD to restore them is a PITA.
