argh, reading the source for the snapper audio driver - it talks to its mixer/equalizer using ki2c, which fails horribly if there's more than one ki2c. So it's hardware monitoring or snapper audio until that's fixed.
Anyway, now we know the purpose of the deq device - so I'll write another nearly empty driver which attaches to the right ki2c and have snapper look for that instead of ki2c.
