Ok, I'll take this on next. I had hoped to get back to the MP stuff, but
there is clearly a larger need for this, especially if it provides an
API for reseting the sync after X exits.

I'm very close to wrapping up the obio/mediabay stuff, so I should be
able to get to this before this weekend.
