ok, got NetBSD put onto the machine manually (netbooted diskless and then
put NetBSD onto the disk) running 1.6.2 and i get this while doing a CVS
checkout of the kernel sources:

login: trap: kernel write DSI @ 0x7472746d by 0x2591b0 (DSISR 0x42000000, err=14)
Press a key to panic.

now, i'd be willing to try 2.0 BETA on this thing, but i cannot get it on in
the same way due to mknod being different (is it?) between the two and the
mknod on 1.6.2 (what my other NetBSD machines run) doesn't grok the flags
that the MAKEDEV in 2.0 is trying to use.

if someone would have a simple solution to that, i could maybe get 2.0 onto
this thing.
