As a second data point, mine (a Sonnet Tempo Trio, which is actually a
Promise ATA/133) does exactly the same thing. Very irritating.

I submitted a PR about this (I forget the number) and I think there is
some rumour this might be better in 2.0 or -current. I don't know, though,
since my only -macppc box running a/t/m is production and I can't really
run a bleeding edge kernel on that.
