Hi Everyone,

The quick version:
Does anyone here have an Adaptec 2930CU (Mac version) installed in machine
with Open Firmware v1.0.5 and is able to boot from devices attached to it?
If so, what ROM version is the SCSI card?

The longer version:
I am currently trying to get NetBSD up and running on an old 8600. I have an
Adaptec 2930CU Mac SCSI card and would like to boot from a drive attached to
this device. The machine is a completely standard 8600 with no other PCI
cards or extra SCSI devices.
The problem is related to the way this card works with Open Firmware on my
machine (v1.0.5).
The card is configured correctly (Jumper closed, proper termination), and
works correctly under MacOS 9 (I can boot OS9 from a HD attached to the
card). The Open Firmware support seems to be broken though. If I navigate to
the device "dev /pci1/ADPT,2930CU" and enter the "words" command, I get
about 20 words returned, that are all very cryptic. "open" is not among them
so I cannot boot from any devices attached to the card.
When installed on a G4 (we have one at work) the card works perfectly in
Open Firmware.
I am wondering if Adaptec have dropped support for early Open Firmware
revisions from the latest 2930 ROM (mine is v4.3), if it was ever there at
all?

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nick.
