I tried plugging my girlfriend's iPod into my iBook, which is running
1.6H. It didn't freeze. Here's what I got:

<plug in>
<5-second wait, not frozen>
fwnode0 at fwohci0 Node 1: UID 00:0a:27:00:02:04:18:9a
fwnode0: Link Speed: 400Mb/s, max_rec: 2048 bytes
Unknown device at fwnode0 not configured

<unplug>
fwnode0 detached

This caused me to notice that I had "fwnode* at fwbus?" configured
into my kernel for some reason; it's commented out in GENERIC. I have
no idea why I bothered to do that.

While I was at it I attached my iBook to her iMac (G4 700) with a
firewire cable (I've done this before with my iBook in "firewire disk
mode", not booted into NetBSD). Similarly dull:

<plug in>
fwnode0 at fwohci0 Node 1: UID 00:03:93:ff:fe:67:e7:2c

<unplug>
fwnode0 detached
