Hi,m

I have, amongst other PowerMacs and clones, a Power Computing PowerCenter
166. I'm finally putting NetBSD on it, but I now see some problems.

I used the 1.5.2 CD to boot an install kernel, then proceeded to install
NetBSD 1.6. However, when trying to boot into 1.6, I get many esp0 errors
and neither the disk nor the CD ROM are successfully probed. I tried other
cables and I switched around the devices so that the bus is actively
terminated.

Because the 1.5.2 install kernel worked, I tried installing 1.5.3; so far,
aside from some errors during the probe, the disk, but not the CD drive,
appears to be working properly.

Here is my current SCSI probe from 1.5.3:

probe(esp0:0:0): max sync rate 6.25MB/s
sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <DEC, RZ1CB-BA (C) DEC, LYE0> SCSI2 0/direct fixed
sd0: 4091 MB, 3708 cyl, 20 head, 113 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 8380080 sectors
probe(esp0:3:0): max sync rate 5.81MB/s
cd0 at scsibus0 target 3 lun 0: <NEC, CD-ROM DRIVE:462, 1.16> SCSI2 5/cdrom removable
esp0: illegal command: 0xc2 (state 2, phase 3, prevphase 1)
esp0: SCSI bus reset
boot device: sd0
root on sd0a dumps on sd0b
sd0(esp0:0:0): max sync rate 6.25MB/s

I haven't seen any other reports of people having problems with esp in
1.6; I haven't had any problems on any other machine.

Does anyone know what changes might have caused this?

Thanks,
John Klos
