Hiya folks,

First off, my kernel:

NetBSD loki 1.6_BETA4 NetBSD 1.6_BETA4 (LOKI) #1: Sun Jul 28 13:49:50 UTC 2002 root@loki:/usr/src/sys/arch/macppc/compile/LOKI macppc

Confile file of kernel attached to this message.

My world is from a 1.6BETA snapshot from a few says ago.

I compiled XFree86 from the sources I got from the xsrc tree. Well, one would
think that they work fine, but no. X bombs with this:

xf86MapVidMem: could not mmap screen [s=20000,a=a0000] (Invalid argument)

I fetched a already built snapshot from the netbsd ftp server, and the result
was the same. In the archives I found a comment about options INSECURE and
kern.securitylevel=0. Did that. Still the same error. It also mentioned
pathing bsd_video.c in the xrsc sources to make the error non-fatal. Did
that, but that just gave me a black screen and a hosed console.

Next thing that occured to me is that the X server might not be suid,
checked that, and it has mode 4711. Should be okay.

Also Xpmac doesn't work, gives me a grey screen, but's it's all skewered to
hell and back. Not really useable.

So... what do I do next? I can't understand why XFree can't mmap the vga
regions, it should have free reign. I'm a bit stumped. Anyone seen this
before?

Cheers,
Emiel (quite puzzled)
