Pretty sure the hardware in the macppc machines is largely the same
stuff that Sun ships (um, or maybe I mean Digital? don't recall), so
I *doubt* it's a hardware thing unless it's the bus. The chipset,
and this is still from memory so correct me if I'm wrong, is one of
the more robust and reliable ones out there for its time.

(One of the things to wonder about is how different Apple made the
"printer" and "modem" ports... I know that I ran into some
circumstances where they didn't quite do the same thing under Mac
OS, but it was years ago and on a mac68k.)

As for the rocket card, what's it detected as? It may well just work
(though the stuff to detect it may not be on by default in macppc
GENERIC).

If you need to get at more than a couple of Ciscos, of course,
you'll definitely want the card. :^>
