To follow up, I finally got my 7300 to boot from floppy!
It seems that, for some reason, my machine did not like
the boot.fs image in the 1.5.2 release tree (yes, I used
binary transfer mode).  Anyway, when I fell back to the
version under 1.5, it performed flawlessly.
