I have installed NetBSD 3x on my PB3500 (very similar to the 3400) I
could not get the NIC to configure correctly. If you do please let me
know what you did.

I am doing this from memory so if it does not work email me and I will
double check.

1. Ignore the instructions. They do not work, at least for me.
2. Create an ISO9660 CD...

   /ofwboot.xcf
   /netbsd_ram.gz
/sets/... <- all of the tars from the install CD.

3. Hold the Command-Option-P-R keys and reboot 3x. You will hear it
chime each time. This will completely reset the PRAM and remove
System Disk changes. Then shut-off the computer. I used the reset
   switch in the back.
4. Hold the Command-Option-O-F keys and reboot.
5. Change the OpenFirmware parameters...

   setenv auto-boot? false
   reset-all

DO NOT change the real-base and load-base leave them at -1 and 4000,
   respectively.
6. Once the computer re-boots type printenv. Your CD _should_ be atapi.
7. Type...

   atapi@0:0,OFWBOOT.XCF NETBSD_RAM.GZ

or based on your directory listing I would try...

   atapi@0:0,OFWBOOT.XCF NETBSDRA.GZ

Sorry I started typing before reading your entire message.

This error is b/c of your load-base setting. Change it back to 4000,
reboot and try again.

Again, please let me know if you get the NIC to work and how. There was
some sort of network configuration under the utilities menu in the
install but I could not figure out what to answer for most of the
prompts.

Thanks.
