Hi everyone,

I'm new to NetBSD, but I do have some knolegde on Unix (Linux).
Unfortunetally I don't know anything about Mac's, but I would like to
install NetBSD on a PowerBook 3400c, which I got for free and wan't to make
some use of it (I don't like MacOS, because it's for me far too user
friendly...)

Here is the problem:
The laptop has no FDD, only a CD-ROM and a built-in ethernet card

I've read all the manuals, but still I cannot boot from the CD.

It goes like this:

I'm settign the env (real-base and load-base) than I write:

0 > dir /bandit/ohare/media-bay/ata/atapi-disk@0:0,\
and i'm getting a directory listing with
.
..
BOOT.FS;1
BDSUM;1
CKSUM;1
MD5;1
MACPPC
NETBSDRA.GZ;1
OFWBOOT.ELF;1
OFWBOOT.XCF;1
SYSVSUM;1
  ok

so the CD I've recorded.

Now I execute:

0 > boot /bandit/ohare/media-bay/ata/atapi-disk@0:0,\OFWBOOT.XCF;1
NETBSD.MACPCC
and i get:
loading XCOFF
tsize=C1C0 dsize=1500 bsize=1608 entry=6000000
SECTIONS:
.text 00600000 00600000 0000C1C0 000000E0
.data 0060D000 0060D000 00001500 0000C2A0
.bss 0060E500 0060E500 00001608 00000000
loading .text, done..
loading .data, done..
clearing .bssCLAIM failed
 ok

Please help me.

I assume, that this is caused by the problem described in
http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/macppc/faq.html#ofw-claim-failed but I maybe
wrong.

If I'm right that plese help me with using the serial console (I have a PC
with Windows 2000 and RH Linux 7.1). As the mac's have different ports I
don't even know where to start... Which one is ttya and which one ttyb...
How to connect it, what progams should I use? I assume, that I need any
simple termilal (VT-100?) emulator, but I'm not sure.
