Well, with a bit of hackery I've managed to build a 1.5.2 kernel that
includes the brgphy driver from -current. It attaches to the phy and works
at 100baseTX, but it appears that the mii framework in 1.5.2 doesn't include
proper support for Gigabit Ethernet. Comparing the 1.5.2 sources to
-current, I see that functions like mii_phy_add_media() don't have cases for
1000base*, and fields in the softc that they would rely on don't exist.

I'm guessing that 1.5.2 just doesn't support Gigabit ethernet. I'm not sure
what sort of can of worms it would be to back-port it, but I fear it would
be a mess.

Oh, I just won't plug it into the Gigabit switch if it doesn't work at full
speed. No point wasting a port. When there's a release that incorporates
Gigabit support, I'll rearrange the network a bit.
