I've been trying to reproduce this under -current (as of a few weeks
ago, so without the newer changes), and so far I haven't been able to.
This is a bit odd, given that the driver hadn't changed in any
significant way.

Perhaps the interrupt problems were causing a ring overflow?  When I
get a chance, I'll test this a little.
