Well, we have still more experience now.
Sometimes, it will get into a state where it skips entries
several times a minute.  I am now thinking that we should
use _both_ approaches:  Generally, adjusting the hand
index, but when the device shows itself to be unstable
more than once in a minute, then reset the thing.
That will be my next patch.
