Thanks for the suggestion, but this didn't work for me (I didn't
expect it to, as my keyboard & mouse (trackpad) are attached to wskbd0
and wsmouse0).

I found my problem, however.  I had "wsmux" configured into my kernel,
and wsmouse was configured to use "mux 0", but apparently this
prevented wskbd0 from being used by XFree86 (I have a similar, but not
identical, problem using Xmacppc).  Removing the "mux" on wsmouse and
wsmux from the kernel config file and rebuilding fixed the problem.

Alas, while XFree86 seems to work in 16-bit mode, 24-bit mode doesn't,
at least not w/ the sample XF86Config file provided.  I'll keep
testing...
