I'm sure you mean 16bit depth, that is 65536 colors.  This is not
possible with the Xmacppc server, but since you already said you built
XFree86 4.0.1 with Tsubai's patches, you should be able to use the
XFree86 server.  Right now, I am even using it with 24bit colordepth
on my Pismo.

I'm not sure whether acceleration is supported to a great extent, but
it certainly feels fast.

Simply add the line `xmodmap -e "keycode 59 =3D BackSpace"' to the file
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 .
